Saab 92 Barn Find

Here is the Saab 92, just one from the 20 pre-production prototypes constructed just before SAAB unveiled its very first motor vehicle in 1950. Chassis numbers went from ‘92001’ to ‘92020’, this vehicle – ‘92009’ – is the 9th finished. Of the 3 identified survivors, ‘92001’ is within the SAAB Museum whilst ‘92004’ is owned by a private enthusiast, making ‘92009’ the 3rd oldest SAAB around. It’s thought that the rest had been scrapped.

This vehicle was initially registered to SAAB Aeroplan AB on 19th July 1949, moving to one of the corporation’s aerospace technical engineers, Olaf Öhlander, in November 1953. It’s thought that before his purchase the vehicle was modified with the opening boot and painted grey (from the initial green, however visible in places). The SAAB experienced another 4 owners (all in Sweden) prior to its acquisition in Sept 1960 by Torsten Johansson, a farmer from the southern area of the country, who used the vehicle occasionally till 1980 when it was put into barn storage.
